PAWS Celebrates International Spay Day with Lectures on the

Importance of Spaying/Neutering of pets and Free Neutering

In celebration of the International Spay Day, PAWS volunteers gave a short talk on Rabies Prevention, Responsible Pet Ownership and the importance of Spay-Neuter to about 500 third year and fourth year high school students at Batasan National High School in Quezon City. 

Not a lot of students were aware that neutering is possible for pets, and that "kapon" or neutering is a humane procedure done by a licensed veterinarian. 












Most students were aware of "kapon" only as a cruel method done with rubber bands in the provinces.

Two shelter dogs were brought to the venue.  Iris and Gary, both rescued from cruelty and neglect and now rehabilitated and ready for adoption were highlights of the lecture.

Their stories helped bring across the message of why spaying and neutering is important in controlling the increasing number of unwanted pets so that there will be less stray animals on the streets and less exposure of animals to cruelty.

In line with the International Spay Day, PAWS also offered free neutering of dogs and cats at the PAWS Animal Shelter on February 26 and 27, 2009.
