PAWS

On behalf of all the animals displaced and

affected by the onslaught of typhoons Ondoy and

Pepeng, we at PAWS sincerely thank all our

donors and volunteers who made our rescue and

disaster relief operations possible.

Please support our campaign to include animal rescue and evacuation in Disaster Management Plans.

Volunteering or donating are just some of the ways that you can help.

Below are previous posts and updates on PAWS disaster rescue and relief operations on animals affected by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng in Manila and nearby provinces.

The last relief operation was conducted in Laguna on November 25, 2009 where animals were fed and given veterinary treatment. Dog collars and leashes were also given away.

With a prayer that there will be less or no disaster for our country this year, we wish you - all friends of the animals -  a Happy New Year!

Help us Continue our Rescue and Relief Operations.

On September 26, 2009, Typhoon Ondoy brought a month's worth of rainfall to Metro Manila and nearby areas in just a few hours, causing severe flooding which resulted in the loss of many lives and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.

Our rescue operations for trapped and stranded animals have not stopped since September 29 and we have opened our animal shelter as an evacuation center for animals whose families were displaced by the floods in Marikina and Pasig areas.

On top of this, we have launched the distribution of relief goods for pet animals and their owners in areas where flood waters are so high, the people are unable to get enough food for themselves and their animals.

Thanks to all who donated and gave their support to PAWS and the animals during their time of urgent need, when we were saving animals from hunger and dehydration.

PAWS still needs your help.

When most of the flood waters in Metro Manila have subsided and flood victims seem to be picking up the pieces and moving on, residents of Laguna and nearby provinces are still trapped in their houses needing much needed relief.

The lake overflowed due to the record rainfall brought by tropical storm “Ondoy.” It would take nearly five months for floodwaters in communities around Laguna de Bay to recede.

The three dogs were floating on debris washed out by the typhoon into the Laguna Bay. They were weak and had not eaten for days. They are now safe in Dr. Donato's Laguna shelter.  When they are strong enough, they can be brought to the PAWS shelter where they have better chances of getting adopted. The PAWS Rescue Team continues its relief operations in some Barangays of Laguna which still has chest-deep floodwaters.

PAWS still needs your donation of dogfood, catfood and relief goods for humans who are still trapped in their homes.

RELIEF OPERATIONS UPDATE  (OCTOBER 16, 2009)

PAWS has distributed more than a ton of dog food (approx 1200) and 500 kgs of cat food in total for the following areas:
  • Pasig
  • Laguna (5 barangays in Pansol and Barangays Aplaya, Pook and Linga in Sta Cruz)
  • Pangasinan (Barangays Salaan, Ilambo, Macayug).

Also, collars and leashes have been given  to pet owners together with the petfood and human relief goods in the flood-ravaged village of Salaan, Pangasinan. We asked for the old collars and leashes to be given to us in exchange for the new ones, and helped owners who brought their dogs remove the old (improper) collars made out of telephone wire, rusting chain, etc.
We have more or less fed 2,994 animals (dogs, cats, and a few cows, pigs and chickens), provided veterinary care and treatment for 154 and rescued a total of 26 animals.

In addition to the 26 rescuees, we are temporarily housing 25 evacuees (owned pets) whose owners have lost their houses and are currently looking for a new place to stay.

PAWS volunteers are repacking donated dog food so we can do weekly relief operations in Laguna and Pangasinan.
