PAWS celebrates World Rabies Day by giving

FREE veterinary services to indigent pet owners

Many low-cost and free veterinary services are given to indigent pet owners at the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (PARC) on a daily basis, but World Rabies Day seemed like a good day for our hardworking volunteers to bring the PAWS clinic to a poor community.



Led by PAWS Shelter Vet Doc Wilford Almoro, Dr. Tabby Dans, Dr. Maripi Diaz and Dr. Aries Hapatinga gave free check-ups and rabies vaccinations to 107 dogs and puppies (mostly, aspins) of Commonwealth residents on September 28, 2010

It was obvious that for most of the poor residents, this was their first encounter with veterinarians and that this was the first time their pups and dogs were vaccinated and dewormed.

Unlike the usual mass vaccinations, the PAWS volunteer vets did a quick check-up, history, auscultation before any vaccines were given.

Twenty-three pups were dewormed and twenty-five slots were given for free spay-neuter.

The PAWS Humane Education Team gave a talk on why spay-neuter was also important in controlling rabies.



More and more, our humane education and veterinary teams are making headway in the fight against rabies and pet overpopulation.
