PAWS opposes the use of animals in experimentation.

PAWS is opposed to the use of animals in experimentation, and is against the use of products and establishments using animals for experimentation.

In accordance with the Republic Act 8485 (better known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998) PAWS has pushed for the promulgation of Administrative Order No. 40, or the Rules and Regulations of Scientific Procedures Using Animals.

(Rules and Regulations on the Conduct of Scientific Procedures Using Animals)

Through AO 40, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee or IACUC evaluates or reviews how animals are used or cared for in laboratory settings, for consumer and biomedical research.

While AO 40 ensures that experiments on animals are regulated, PAWS is ultimately against the use of products and establishments using animals for experimentation.

In the interim, our organization will work for the enforcement of the Three Rs within industries that still use animals for research:

1. Reduction – Reducing the number of animals being used for experimentation
2. Refinement – Ensuring that animals do not feel pain and should be euthanized immediately if they can no longer be rehabilitated
3. Replacement – Promoting the use of alternative methods of research and dissection (virtual dissection)
